Roughly halfway between San Francisco and San Jose and intersected by highway 101, East Palo Alto has enjoyed some major changes and improvements over the years. Once known for its high level of crime, East Palo Alto is now seeing a trend towards being known more for its retail and shopping areas as well as affordable housing. In addition to being close to Stanford University, East Palo Alto is also the quickest and easiest way for peninsula residents and commuters to get to Alameda County via the Dumbarton Bridge. Despite its name, East Palo Alto is actually north and not east of Palo Alto and borders Menlo Park and Palo Alto.

Home to Ikea, Home Depot, and the Four Seasons Silicon Valley, East Palo also has seen the financial prosperity of Palo Alto begin to squeeze its border.  With the large and growing Facebook campus to the North, this area could see tremendous growth over the next 20 years as the proximity to higher paying jobs could lead to further gentrification of the area. The local Ravenswood School district serves East Palo Alto as well as all Menlo Park communities to the East of Highway 101.

East Palo Alto is served by the 94303 Zip code that also crosses into Palo Alto, but the home prices could not be any more different across the border, with Palo Alto homes often 3-4 times the cost.  The Realtor association designates the area as MLS Area 322.The majority of the homes in the area are single-family homes, but there are also newer condos and townhomes that have been built in the last 20 years.
